Fact File
At the headquarters of Kent Wildlife Trust, Tyland Barn Nature Park and Gardens offers a nature-friendly green space for its local communities. One of the best loved features of Tyland Barn, is its pond. It provides a perfect home for frogs, newts and dragonflies as well as offering opportunities for hands-on learning by way of pond dipping. The preexisting boardwalk and platforms, however, were worn, unsteady and rotting. They needed replacing.
The £57,672 funding from Biffa Award was used to remove the tired platform and install a new pond dipping platform, boardwalk and benches. The new platform was beautifully designed to allow better accessibility and fits the natural environment harmoniously allowing for many more years of educational activities and family fun sessions. The Trust was also able to create a community garden in a former composting area of the site, creating raised beds, a new polytunnel and accessible flooring which can be used by the local community for a number of growing projects on site.
