Project/Applicant Name:Burnmoor Cricket Lawn Tennis Club and Institute
County:County Durham
Theme:Recreation
Grant Received:£31,971

As the only community space in Burnmoor village, the club is a social hub. It offers not only a place to train and compete in cricket and tennis but also gives a home to a variety of other groups like music, table tennis, bingo and ex-serviceman, as well as a place to have motorbike and car meets, craft fairs, committee meetings and much more.

The facility lacked a kitchen and the lounge area was in a poor state of repair with health and safety concerns; dodgy electrics and mould being two of the issues.

Biffa Award granted the club £31,971 to revitalise the lounge with new timber, cladding, plasterboard, floor timbers and rewiring as well as providing the new kitchen with a cooker, fridges, a hot plate, sinks, work surfaces, an extraction unit and tiling.

The completion of this project has saved the club.  Without it, we would have struggled to survive the winter months ahead.  Having the ability to attract members of the community into a beautiful social area and serve food will keep the place busy throughout the coming months when historically the place is empty.  Not only are we able to attract new and old customers, as the place is so nice we will get them to keep coming back.  We will continue to maintain and reinvest any money we make to keep the project covered for the years to come.  A massive, sincere thanks to everyone involved at Biffa Award.”
