In 2021, Whitley Bay Big Local purchased a former Job Centre building with the intention of creating a multi-purpose eco-hub for local people.
This community-led charity approached Biffa Award to help partially fund the refurbishment of the ground floor. The £50,000 grant helped to pay for automatic external doors, an automatic internal door, kitchen installation, an accessible toilet and a baby change facility.
The refurbishment allowed the organisation to deliver diverse programmes of activity and will help them in their goal to “engage with a wide range of community members and partners to enable people to work together to unlock resources and strengthen our collective belief and pride in Whitley Bay.”
