Fact File
Hull Football Club Rugby Community Sports and Education Foundation uses rugby league as a catalyst for improving communities. The hub acts as a base for a range of programmes for those affected by poverty, loneliness, isolation, long-term health conditions and people living with a disability.
An annual inspection of the 23-year-old heating and water systems saw both condemned. During the previous winter, the systems provided little heat, no hot water and caused flooding, which resulted in many sessions being cancelled.
The £59,662 Biffa Award grant fully funded a new heating system and installation of a hot water system, which has allowed the centre to continue to provide ongoing and sometimes life changing programmes of activities improving physical and mental health and wellbeing of local residents.
“The work to be carried out through this grant award will ensure the Hull FC Youth and Community Centre continues to provide a welcoming, inspiring environment for children and young people to access activities that empower better life chances. Having a fit for purpose centre will enable the Foundation to welcome residents year-round in life changing programmes that tackle socio-economic inequalities.” Adam Pearson, Trustee
“This award means I can continue accessing sessions throughout the winter. I live just round the corner was worried about having to get the bus if it moved – can’t wait to keep attending.” Craig, Participant
